Welcome to the World of I Built It Miniatures!
MADE BY US, BUILT BY YOU.
Here at I Built It, we design intricately detailed architecture model kits and manufacture them with the function of gaming terrain. Being avid gamers with a passion for history having a background in architecture and engineering had us distill our practical expertise in creating I Built It range of model kits. Using our perspectives to create beautiful, precise and functional buildings with a buff of history to capture the everyday lives of those who lived then has been our aim.
It’s been a journey of 5 years with painstaking research, exhaustive experimentation, and painful failures that ultimately led to success. The assiduity for every minute detail throughout the stage of a kit’s design with rigorous test for optimized user-friendly built until manufacture has been our fundamental goal.
Our model kits do not need tools, glue or paint to be completed.
All the parts snap together using a unique friction fit system that allows you to assemble and disassemble each kit as you please. Our kits come pre-painted using only non-toxic paints. This pre-painted layer also acts as a primer should you wish to paint or whether your model.
Every façade piece provided with our kits is engineered to be modular allowing you to interchange facades from one building to another.
All our sets are made up of individual modular blocks that can be stacked vertically as well as horizontally. These modular blocks come in a variety of sizes and materials, allowing you to model buildings of different sizes and material finishes which can be interchanged with ease. For example, brick, stone, wood, and plaster facades can be combined and swapped with each other to create multiple material combinations.
Our sets have multiple levels of modularity and are designed to maximize your ability to customize your model as well as expand your collection to build entire villages, towns, and castles.
Our models feature working components and mechanisms varying from doors and windows that really open, to drawbridges that lower, and siege engines that launch projectiles!
Unpainted sets gives you advantage of having your own choice of color for stone, wood, chimney and roof.
The standard texture represents masonry by means of "vector" lines that basically scores the material .
The Pro-Texture is made by converting a high resolution photo of real stone masonry for use on our machines. The machine then engraves the material into a 3d texture that feels like stone. If you touch it, you can feel the undulations and roughness that is characteristic of real stone. It results in a very convincing stone texture by look and feel. I believe there is no one else doing this at the moment. This 3d texture looks very convincing on its own, but just a tiny bit of weathering using oil washes and pigment powders will really make the detail pop (as shown below in Picassawi's picture). All this realism comes at a significant expense in terms of machine hours as it take more than double the time to produce the Pro-texture.
Weathering & Detailing
Add washes, foliage and dry brushing to enhance the already realistic looking texture.
WOW! Having assembled the unit from Amazon, I cannot express how impressed I am with these earlier units. The finish, both Interior & Exterior, the incredible tolerances used to allow the press-fit assembly and the way they label the parts with a Sheet and Piece designation, are all major improvements over your competition. I have assembled products from 4Ground, TeXRex & Sally4th. None of them hold up in comparison to the these early IBuiltIt products. I can’t wait to see the improvements offered in the next generation.
This model was one of my first and I absolutely love it. It has amazing details, but wasn't overly complicated to put together. I will be purchasing all of the models in this set.
The Ballista kit was wonderful to build and fun to use in gaming! It was easy to follow the instructions and provided a nice evening of enjoyment. This kit is a double so building it with a family member or friend building the other is a plus. I also liked the bit of history of these weapons. Highly recommended!
